Alexa, Apple, Google new move will allow smart home devices to communicate with each other

Amazon, Apple ,Google and the Zigbee Alliance set a meeting in Washington. After the meeting, they announced a new plan on Wednesday to develop a common and standard technology for smart home products. This announcement is made to aim at enabling more connected devices to talk to each other. During the meeting, they’re going to set a new working group that plans to develop and promote the adoption of a new, royalty-free connectivity standard to extend the compatibility among smart home products, with security as a fundamental design tenet. Zigbee Alliance board member companies such as IKEA, Legrand, NXP Semiconductors, Resideo, Samsung SmartThings, Schneider Electric, Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), Silicon Labs, Somfy, and Wulian are also on board to join the working group and contribute to the project.

Goal of project

 The move is made with the goal of the Connected Home product and increase compatibility for consumers. The project is formed to a shared belief that smart home devices should be secure, reliable, and seamless to use by the customers. Internet protocol is formed to aims the enable communication across smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud services and to define a selected set of IP-based networking technologies for device certification. The working team will take an open-source approach for the development and implementation of a new and unified connectivity protocol. The project intends to leverage home devices to accelerate the development of the protocol, and deliver benefits to manufacturers as well as consumers It will provide security and made the devices more reliable to customer. It also faster the technology of these devices.

 The project will also improve the consumer experience who are trying to use smart home products that aren’t compatible with each other. The company also think that this project will also enhance the technology and the market of home devices, even there existing customers of Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, Google Assistant and the Zigbee Alliance will be happy with this project. They believe that after this internet protocol these devices will be widely accepted and adopted across home systems.

 The new project also includes the Zigbee Alliance, an earlier effort to develop a common wireless standard for connected devices that includes manufacturers such as Samsung, retailers such as Ikea and other tech firms including NXP Semiconductors.
