A smartwatch is a technology device, looks like the wristwatch. Their screen is a touchscreen, that we see in smartphones. They are powered by a lithium-ion battery, which is chargeable and consumes less power, made for daily use. Earlier smartwatches could perform basic things, like digital time, calculations, games, calling and messages. But now with the advancement in technology, smartwatches have some advanced features in it, like mobile operating system, wifi connectivity, wireless Bluetooth adaptor, digital cameras. Even they can monitor heart rate, pedometers, compasses, GPS receivers, FM radio, tiny speakers, etc. They have SD cards for extra storage like, we see in computers, smartphone, and other technology devices. Smartwatches collect information from internal /external sensors and it may control, or retrieve data from, other instruments or computers.  Therefore we can say, smartwatches can perform everything that smartphones can perform.

History

The first smartwatch was invented in 1972, it was the Pulsar manufactured by Hamilton Watch Company. Pulsar became a brand name which was later be taken by Seiko company in 1978. In 1982, a Pulsarwatch (NL C01) was released which could store 24 digits, making it was most likely the first watch was with user-program memory. Seiko began to develop computers in the form of watches in 1984. They launch 2000 watch with an external keyboard for data-entry. Data was synced from the keyboard to the watch with the electromagnetic coupling. The D409 was the first Seiko model with on-board data entry, Its memory was tiny, at only 112 digits It was made in gold, silver and black colors. These models were followed by many others by Seiko later on. Casio began to market of these smartwatches which have calculators in it. Most notable was the Casio smart watches series. After that many more smartwatches were produced by Casio and other companies.
